Protein is perhaps the most under-emphasized macro-nutrient in our standard american diet. The average person only gets 50-60% of the recommended daily amount of protein in their day-to-day meals. Strength trainees, in particular, need to pay specific attention to their protein intake in order to achieve the greatest muscle growth from their strength training sessions. Can you imagine putting in all of the work yet not getting any of the gains simply because you body didn’t have the necessary building blocks to make the new muscle? What a shame that would be… The magic number is calculated based on your current height, weight and body composition. Be sure to ask your trainer to help you calculate your minimum daily protein intake.
